Facts and Figures About 4 of the Top Colleges and Universities in Georgia

The state of Georgia is known for its peaches, hosting the Olympics, having great sports teams such as the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves and being the home of Martin Luther king, Jr. and Jimmy Carter to name a few. It also has several wonderful places to attend school as far as colleges and universities according to a Georgia divorce attorney. Emory University is a great university that was created in 1836 in Oxford. It has many academic programs there to study such as a liberal arts college, professional schools that have degrees in theology, business and law and a huge medical program to study medicine, nursing and other health care systems like physical therapy and medical imaging. It is academically vigorous and hard to get into and many top professionals are alumni of this Georgian school. There are 5000 undergraduate students and over 12,000 graduate students at Emory.

Morehouse College is known as a historically black school for men but welcomes men of all races, religions and backgrounds. It has been called the number one college for educating African American men and has a long history of successful alumni like Martin Luther King, Jr. There is a special chapel on campus that commemorates everything that Dr. King stood for and uses him as a large example of what they want to instill in the men at the school. It started out as the Augusta Institute a couple of years after the Civil War ended to prepare black men for life in the areas of ministry and teaching and continued to grow from there. Morehouse College is the country's largest liberal arts college for men and is located just a few miles outside of downtown Atlanta.

The University of Georgia is one of the largest schools in the state with 25,000 undergrads and over 8,000 graduate students. This school is famous for being the first state supported university and started in 1785. The University of Georgia is located in Athens and attracts 80% of its students from Georgia, although they have students from all over the world that attend this school. They were recently ranked 5th in the country for having the most students participate in study abroad programs and also host the Peabody Awards which awards those who have shown excellence in television and radio news.

The final school is Georgia State University which is known as the states top urban research university and was started in 1913. It is located in downtown Atlanta giving the students a great opportunity to live and study in one of the country's greatest cities. It was recently named in the Top 100 public universities for doctoral degrees and has over 40,000 undergraduate and graduate students pursuing their educations. Many alumni that chose Georgia Sate are now working in the research fields in various areas.
